Regret-A-Day

( It's exactly what it sounds like. Life's full of regret. And I've made it my mission to post at least one per day. Join me, won't you? )

DAY 573

This whole stupid blog is about regretting things, regardless of whether or not they conflict with the views & opinions of people who read it. And I have a feeling that’s what’s going to happen with this particular regret.

But you know what? These opinions are completely subjective. If you don’t agree with what I’m about to say (which, fair warning, is about something incredibly unimportant), start your own Tumblr. When you hear the bell, keep this in mind.

I regret the fact that I really never cared for the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy.

That’s right. I said the WHOLE DAMN TRILOGY. Why regret? Well, I WANTED to like this shit. I mean, it’s fucking BATMAN. But I’m at a loss.

Backstory: When I saw “Batman Begins,” I was underwhelmed.

I know that’s blasphemy, but it’s the truth. Thing is, I generally rank a flick based on whether I want to see it again. Or moments in the film that I can’t get out of my head. Or better yet, moments that give me goosebumps when it’s on the screen & months (even years) after.

For me, “Batman Begins” had NONE of these things going for it.

DING!

I went into “The Dark Knight” hearing too much good shit about Heath Ledger’s turn as the Joker. And I’m allergic to hype, so I was expecting the worst.

My hater mechanism was instantly crushed into powder. Because regardless of the hype, Ledger was brilliant. His performance pulled this thing off the shitheap for me. But there were still moments when I felt like Batman didn’t even need to be there. Which makes for a pretty shitty Batman movie, doesn’t it?

DING!

So, I just saw “The Dark Knight Rises” tonight. And it kind of solidified the fact that I was NEVER, EVER invested in the reboot.

I’d heard good & bad about it, both from people I respect about these things. And I gotta say, I didn’t hate it, I didn’t love it, I just watched the damn movie. Which is not what I want out of a movie.

Somewhere during the 30 minutes mark, I had this realization: I never cared.

Again, DING!

This is all grain of salt shit. As I’m apt to say, “There’s a war on.” In the grand scheme of things, it’s of no real consequence. It’s $8 I won’t get back. Big deal. I’ve lost more at Cheapo.

And after all, it’s just a comic book movie.

That being said, let me leave anyone who might disagree with what I’ve just laid down with this: Did ANY of Nolan’s Batman flicks make you feel like you did during “The Avengers?”

Or for some, “Watchmen?”

Pull me aside on the street, disagree with me on your lame social networks, do what thou wilt. I don’t mind shooting the shit about it. But I’ve said my peace.

And just so you know, I don’t feel great about this realization.
